Terms of Business

Cash with order please, unless known to us.  Please make cheques payable to DAVID SHAW.  Payment can be made in the following ways – ACCESS/VISA/MASTERCARD/EUROCARD – quote card number; name & initials as on your card & expiry date.  Personal Sterling Cheque/Bank Draft or Personal cheque in any major currency (in which case allow equivalent £6.00stg to cover conversion charges at our end.  Any surplus will be credited to your account.

Part payment acceptable on larger orders, split over one month, by prior arrangement only.

Postal Charges

UK orders of £40 and under 30p.  Over this we reserve the right to use SPECIAL DELIVERY at a cost of £4.00.  OVERSEAS orders will be sent Airmail International Recorded or Registered, whichever is appropriate, at cost, unless ordinary airmail is requested on small orders under £40.  ALL ORDERS SENT AT CUSTOMER’S RISK.

PLEASE NOTE Recorded Delivery Post offers little in the way of compensation should a letter be damaged or lost.  The Post Office states “This facility is specially suitable for sending documents & items of little or no intrinsic value…”  compensation of £26.00 (maximum limit) only payable if the loss or damage is the fault of the PO or its employees. 

Refunds & Returns

Any items found to be unsatisfactory must be returned within 10 DAYS (UK) or ONE MONTH (Overseas) for full refund.  If you are unable to deal with approvals within this time limit (holidays & illness excepted) please do not ask for them as it is unfair on others.  Please return any items protected with some stiff card.

Abbreviations

a.l.s. = autograph letter signed;  E/L = Entire letter;  E = Outer cover only, NO LETTER;  Env. = Envelope;  U/D/C = Un-dated circle, village marking;  h/s = handstruck marking;  m/s = manuscript marking;  s/arc, d/arc = single or double arc date stamp;  d.c./d.r. = double circle/ring;  s.c./s.r. = single circle/ring.

Grading

The following standards of grading will apply to all ages of material:  * = poor, part strike only visible;  ** = fair, about half strike visible;  *** = good, most of strike visible, with some detail;  **** = fine, full or virtually full strike.  SUPERB strikes are few & far between, these will be noted individually on the list
